This past weekend, we finally picked up our deli backsplash tiles. As we loaded up, Jackson @ Heath, who was such a huge help in our tiling process, exclaimed, "That's great news! Tiles usually mean you're in the final stages!!"
Yes! We're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The floors went down this past week, kitchen equipment got moved in, and our window signs are going up on Friday. Once we get our new hood and kitchen equipment installed, all that there will be left are cosmetic alterations.
Through this build-out process, we've become appreciative of the craftsmen and contractors who have helped build the space literally from the ground up. There's so much more that goes into creating a Korean superette than we had ever imagined.
We don't know the exact date yet, but we plan to open in August. We can’t wait to show you the before and after photos soon. More importantly, we are eager to invite you to Queens, a space that conveys our culture and our home.
So, what’s a Korean superette?
In short, Queens will offer everything you'll need to stock a full Korean pantry and then prepare a bomb Korean meal at home. Expect to find super fresh, super tasty asian veggies grown locally by Bay Area farmers and a lineup of provisions that balances mainstream Korean food brands (Chung Jung One, Sempio) with imported, craft products (small-batch perilla oil, dried anchovies, fermented bean paste).
If you just want a quick bite or a meal for the family, you'll want to check out our deli case and prepared foods section for fresh kimchi, banchans by the pound, kimbap for the park, soups, stews...all that good stuff! (and made using the responsible ingredients found throughout the rest of the store).
The newly opened space will also bill itself as a neighborhood shop, where folks can expect other unique goodies—including homeware by Korean artists, apothecary inspired by traditional Korean bathhouses, and a weekly round-up of fresh flowers from La Fleuriste.
Sounds like fun, right?! See you all soon!!!!
GOOOOOOOD news! We are in the final weeks of building and fixing things around the shop. The rough plumbing and electrical drawings have passed inspection, our dry wall is up with fresh coats of paint, and we have a beautiful new patio taking shape. Pretty soon, the kitchen will be fully equipped, our major furniture will get installed, and we’ll have shiny new floors to greet city inspectors.
As we ramp up to our grand opening, we wanted to keep a daily log to share news and stories, and celebrate this opening together. So stay tuned and check back often for updates.
To all our friends, supporters, investors, collaborators, and partners…thank you for your constant encouragement and love. Queens couldn't happen without you.
